MARCH MOON DAY YIN
Moon Days are traditional days of rest for Ashtanga Yoga practitioners practicing a six day a week morning Mysore method. Yin Yoga is the perfect compliment to your Ashtanga practice or other yang forms – Yin targets connective tissue: the tendons, ligaments and fascia. Since one of the main aims of Yin is to prepare the seat for meditation, we work specifically with the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis, inner thighs and spine. Regular Ashtanga practitioners who add Yin to their practice will find greatly improved flexibility and mental focus (drishti). For many practitioners Yin is an untapped source.
JIVAMUKTI WORKSHOP: EVOLUTION OF DAKINI WITH CHERRYL DUNCAN
Dakini in Sanskrit is a female messaged of wisdom. This two hour workshop begins with foundational alignment work. The beginning of every journey must have a strong foundation where strength, intention and power can be cultivated. We will then move into the introduction of Mudra (sacred gestures), combined with movement and breath where the Dakini learns to harness and direct her power for the purpose of creation, beauty and love, ending with a full expression of movement where the Dakini offers her divinity as an expression of bliss. This workshop is not only for women! I invite you to not get stuck on our roles as male and female but instead allow yourself to be intrigued by the life sustaining energy that runs through all of us in it's male and female expressions.
Saturday 08 March / 10.30am - 12.30pm / R300
AIR was founded by Neal and Vanessa, who have both been practicing yoga and meditation for over 10 years. Their experience includes running a yoga studio and various retreats in Asia and Europe before coming to South Africa. Vanessa comes from a visual arts background and has been working commercially as a graphic designer. Neal's expression is through music and sound. The space combines yoga and meditation with an expression of their creativity.
AIR's mission is to create a thriving space to support the creative process through conscious physical and mental exploration. Yoga, meditation, inspirational talks and workshops are aimed at giving people a place to regroup, focus and inspire. It's a place where people can not only connect with their own inner potential, but also make supportive connections to help build cohesion within the local community of the Woodstock Exchange and beyond.
Our take on it is 'Yoga As Life'. Going beyond simple stretching. We practice to clean the pipes of the body and mind allowing us to take control of the way we feel and behave. Through direct experience on the mat we practice to take a balance into our daily lives.
A creative outlet is essential to a balanced life. Meditation will provide insight into your passions and give you tools to remain calm and focused in the process.
The space also functions as a creative project space. Neal and Vanessa applying their creative skills on various projects. More to come in this area.
Mysore style is traditional Ashtanga yoga, taught in India by the late Sri K Pattabhi Jois. It is a unique class where you will practice a set sequence of postures at your own pace while a teacher gives you individual guidance and adjustments. As you progress through the series you will receive new postures. For all levels from beginners to advanced. It's a wonderful way to learn a meditative personal practice.
Counted Primary Series taught in the traditional format where the teacher calls out the posture names and counts the breaths to encourage a seamless meditative flow. The class is steady paced with minimal alignment instructions given, so some familiarity with the Primary Series is recommended. This is a great compliment to your Mysore practice.
This is an introduction to the traditional method of Ashtanga yoga. You will be introduced to key concepts of Tristana and the beginning sequence of the Primary Series. This will slowly ease you into the Mysore style. This class is for students of all levels, whether you are a complete beginner or whether you are a more advanced practitioner wanting to learn about the fundamentals of Ashtanga Yoga.
This class draws on knowledge from Indian Hatha asanas, Chinese medicine theory, as well as of Buddhist mindfulness meditation to work on balancing the mind and body. Holding shapes for long periods of time that stress the connective tissues and redirect energy to vital organs. Encouraging surrender, softening and release. Yin yoga complements a fast and energetic Ashtanga yoga or other Yang styles.
Have you ever been interested in learning meditation? In these open sessions a group will gather weekly to do a reading from various philosophical texts. This will open up a discussion and end on a group meditation practice. Gain qualities of focus, calmness, clarity, and insight for your creative processes in your daily lives. These sessions are open to all, no previous experience necessary. Donation (R20)
Jivamukti means "liberation while living." This style of yoga emerged in 1984 from one of New York City's best-known yoga studios. It is a study of how Ashtanga yoga incorporates into spiritual teachings and philosophies, placing special emphasis on how these apply to daily life. Classes can give you a good workout in a supportive and uplifting environment.
Asanas that fall into the special category of restorative poses have a particular ability to leave us nourished and well rested. These soothing and well-supported poses offer us the opportunity to linger quietly for a few moments and savor the simple sweetness of life. These postures are usually deeply supported by blankets, blocks, or other props and are held for several minutes at a time.
JIVAMUKTI BASIC CLASS & BEGINNER DONATION
In these classes you will explore the foundation and fundamental principals of yoga asana practice. Focusing on proper alignment, the student will gain detailed instruction of how to safely execute and modify each posture to suit oneʼs individual body. These classes are designed for Absolute beginners as well as experienced practitioners interested in going deeper into the fundamentals of yoga asana.
Developed by experienced yoga practitioners and physiotherapists, Simon Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss. Incorporating asanas, vinyasa, pranayama and meditation. It's a dynamic, moving meditation, which links yoga postures in sequence with breath. This style is from Krishnamacharya lineage, teacher to three of the most influential yoga teachers – Pattabhi Jois, Iyengar and Desikachar.
Working as a team, we'll cultivate trust, strength, stability and flexibility through partner asana, and partner strength and inversion drills. Then we'll take it to the air with an acrobatic flying sequence. A playful, safe, supportive environment will empower the whole room to be upside down and connect to their joy. No partner necessary. No experience necessary.

Thai Yoga Massage
Thai Massage is a dynamic combination of massage, Yoga and acupressure that works harmoniously
to balance the body's natural energy systems. This unique therapy is one of the key elements of traditional Thai medicine.
Originating in India around the time of Buddha (over 2,000 years ago),
Thai Massage is rooted in Indian traditions of Yoga and in Buddhist spiritual practices. (60/90mins)
Thai Foot Massage & Leg Meridian Clearing
A powerful cleansing and detoxifying treatment, this works on the 'Sen' (Thai meridians) lines of the leg and feet
yet has an effect on one's whole being. Ancient beliefs support the theory that our entire body is mapped out in our feet,
by applying pressure and gentle massage techniques to these points we bring the energy systems back into harmony. (90mins)
Note: Cancellations must be made at least 24hrs in advance.
Late cancellations will be charged for at 50% of the price.
Thai Foot Massage
The treatment draws on acupressure, stretching and energy balancing techniques using hands, thumb pressure and a wooden acupressure tool known as a Thai foot stick. As well as being a wonderfully relaxing treatment, Thai foot massage can improve the circulation, help boost the immune system, reduce stiffness and improve flexibility. (60mins)
This therapy is based on the discovery that there are points on the feet
that correspond to organs, systems and structures within the entire
body. By using specific pressure techniques to stimulate the "reflexes"
on the feet, imbalances in the body can be both detected and effectively
treated to restore balance and well-being. (60mins)
Yin Yoga Therapy
One-on-one sessions to help develop an individualised therapeutic practice for reducing stress, anxiety, depression and help the healing process due to injury.
